Cove Vase

The sculptural Cove vase draws inspiration from New Zealand’s Coromandel coast. Its organic form reflects the sweeping coastline, capturing the interplay between land and sea.

Design Inspiration

During the design process, Città designer Nikolai Sorensen reflected on childhood memories of exploring the winding coastline—the joy of running ahead on family walks and eagerly following the land’s contours.

This nostalgia led him to study the coastline from an aerial perspective. Working from Città’s Mt Eden studio, he traced elements of the land and extracted interesting forms.

Through a process of refinement, he developed two interacting vases. Crafted from mottled grey glass with a tactile ripple effect, the design evokes the textures and tones of the coast while subtly blurring the contents within.

Designed to be displayed together, the tall, narrow vase creates a visual relationship with the low, wide vase. Bold in scale and presence, they are equally impactful as standalone pieces.

Artisanal Craftsmanship

Each vase is handcrafted by skilled artisans in India. Using traditional glassblowing techniques, molten glass is handled at the end of a blowpipe and mouth-blown into a fixed mould.

The design pushes the boundaries of scale with Nikolai working closely with the supplier to refine every detail. In 2024, he visited the factory as the vases were glass-blown, deepening his appreciation for the craftsmanship behind each piece.

The artisanal process results in organic variations in colour, thickness, and texture—making each vase truly special.
