Design Inspiration

The design features a cylindrical base that tapers into a ‘pinched’ top. “The idea is quite simple, but something I have been fascinated with for a while,” explains Jamie. “I love how such a simple gesture can produce interesting forms while also offering functional and ergonomic opportunities.”

The design creates a distinctive ‘figure eight’ silhouette with two separate chambers. The unique shape allows for striking floral displays—either fanning out in a wide, dramatic arrangement or creating asymmetry by filling just one side.

An Inspired Coloured Palette

The Pinch vase is available in a harmonious palette, inspired by nature. Bright citrus yellow complements light ‘pōhutukawa bud’ green, and a deep charcoal green.

“Many of the colours I felt drawn to were very close to my daily surroundings,” says Jamie. “At the time, the pōhutukawa trees were just about to explode into flower, and their buds were a beautiful soft green.”

about our designers

Meticulously Handcrafted in Vietnam

Each vase is crafted in a family-operated pottery workshop in Vietnam. The master ceramist draws on his studies abroad to develop a unique formula, creating strong yet delicate forms.

The Pinch embodies this mastery, with its fluid transition from a convex base to a concave top, maintaining perfect balance and symmetry.

Città designer Nikolai Sorensen experienced this craftsmanship firsthand, visiting the Hải Phòng workshop to witness the vases come to life.

Designed by Jamie McLellan & Città

The Pinch vase is a result of a collaboration between Jamie McLellan and Città’s in-house design team.

Jamie’s design philosophy involves reducing objects down to a single, compelling idea and celebrating it in a “beautiful, maximalist way.” He enjoys creating families of interconnected objects that share a cohesive design language.
