The Tether Toolbox is a collaboration between Città and internationally renowned product designer Jamie McLellan.

During the design process, Jamie drew inspiration from his love of all things nautical, incorporating a soft braided rope handle reminiscent of sailing. The tactile handle, joyous form, and bright palette transform this otherwise utilitarian object into a playful storage caddy. Use it throughout the home to bring colour and character to everyday organisation.

Made from recycled ABS plastic and designed with six practical compartments . Available in six vibrant colourways, as well as a bucket form.

Design Inspiration

The design journey began with the humble braided rope, a material widely used for functional purposes in sailing.

Designer Jamie McLellan sought to reimagine it for the home, exploring how its tactile qualities could bring warmth to an everyday object.

“I was interested in taking the rope out of its traditional context and exploring how it could be used in an unexpected way within the home. This led to the idea of using it as a handle for a desktop caddy,” explains Jamie.

“I like how the softness of the rope brings tactile and visual warmth to what are otherwise quite utilitarian objects. Paired with the joyous shapes and bright colours, it transforms everyday organisation into something a little more delightful.”

Playful Colour Accents

Across the collection, bold colourways complement and contrast with the braided rope handle. Rich, warming Plum is paired with a bright orange handle, while ever-classic Black is colour-matched for a sleek look.

Further inspiration comes from New Zealand’s natural environment. Kōwhai Yellow echoes the sunny native tree in bloom, while Kea Red is reminiscent of the vivid orange-red underwings of the native parrot.

Jamie’s design philosophy involves reducing objects down to a single, compelling idea and celebrating it in a “beautiful, maximalist way.”

He enjoys creating families of interconnected objects that share a cohesive design language.
